I went to a screening of The Business of Being Born in Lexington this week. Going into it, I was afraid that it would be total propoganda, a Michael Moore-ish approach to documenting birth in America. However, I was pleasantly surpirsed! They did a great job of presenting homebirth and intervention-free (natural) birth as options for women with healthy, low-risk pregnancies without relying on scare tactics to get their point across.
The documentary is being released directly to Netflix at the end of February. I'd encourage ya'll to order it, watch it, and let me know what you think. But be warned--there are several uncensored birth scenes, so be prepared. It's definitely worth watching!
Also, Matt and I are meeting with our potential midwife next week! I actually got to meet her at the screening, and she seems really nice (albiet from Jersey...). We'll see how she does with our barrage of questions!
Also, this Monthy Python clip is REALLY funny :-)

I tried to get to a screening of this movie nearby, but was snowed in, unfortunately. We don't have netflix, so I begged a friend to rent it for me, and she and I watched it a few weeks ago. I loved it. It reinforced my desire to have a homebirth this time. Now I just need to get on the phone and call around looking for a midwife! :) The cost is the only drawback for me at this point, but it's a huge deal. So I'm not sure how it's all going to work out, but I guess I won't know until I actually talk to somebody. And since I'm approaching 19 weeks I guess it's about time! (Wow... baby must agree, because it just started kicking up a storm! haha) GO home birth!!!!!!!
